Terra Firmware

Replacement firmware for the Terrashroom TS-01. Your chamber runs the grow by itself again, with no cloud, and talks to Home Assistant and an iPhone app over your own Wi-Fi.

Where it's at

Running on my own chamber since October 2026. Temperature, humidity, fans, mister, heater, lights and the self-test are all confirmed on real hardware.

Still open: the base light strip on my unit and the water-level probe. The firmware works around the probe by watching humidity instead.

Stock firmware vs Terra Firmware

Stock (Blynk)Terra Firmware
Needs the cloudYes. The grow logic only ran with the Blynk app connected, and that cloud is gone.No. The grow loop runs on the chamber. Wi-Fi only adds the app and Home Assistant.
Species presets13 presets. The Blue Oyster preset sets no temperature or humidity. The same presets with the stock values, plus custom targets. Blue Oyster is fixed.
HumidityOn/off misting.Pulsed misting, a gentle top-up near the target, and an automatic purge when it gets too wet.
Heater safetySingle threshold.Cuts out on a missing or stale sensor reading, or above 88 °F, even in manual mode.
UV-C lampThe self-test switches it on.Locked off. The app can't turn it on, and neither can the self-test.
UpdatesUnsigned, pushed by a server that no longer exists.Password-protected over Wi-Fi. Upload from the web page is switched off.
Home AssistantNo.Yes, through the ESPHome integration, with encryption.

How flashing works

The first install needs wires. The TS-01 has a 7-pin programming header and no way to update it over the air any more. After that, updates go over Wi-Fi.

Unplug the UV-C lamp (UVC1) before you flash. UV-C light damages eyes. Nobody has yet measured what the lamp output does while the chip sits in download mode, so it stays unplugged until that's known.
  1. Get the parts. A 3.3 V USB-serial adapter (FT232 or CH340), four jumper wires, and a computer with Chrome or Edge. That's about $10 if you don't have them.
  2. Sign in with your email to get the flasher and the firmware.
  3. Back up your chamber. The flasher reads the whole 4 MB chip twice, checks that both reads match, and saves the file to your computer. It won't let you go further until you've done this.
  4. Check the chip. The flasher confirms flash encryption and secure boot are off. If they aren't, it stops.
  5. Flash. Hold the button on the back while you connect. The flasher writes Terra Firmware, reads it back and checks it.
  6. Join Wi-Fi. The chamber starts its own setup hotspot. Join it from your phone and pick your network.

Can I do it from my phone?

iPhone

Not the first install. iPhones can't talk to a USB-serial adapter from a web page, so that step needs a computer. After that, the iPhone app is the best way to run your chamber.

Android

Yes, with a CH340 adapter and a USB-C OTG cable. Open the flasher in Chrome. FT232 adapters don't work from Android browsers.

Updates

Once Terra Firmware is installed, updates go over Wi-Fi from Home Assistant or the ESPHome dashboard. Updates from inside the iPhone app are next on the list.
